Bio:
My name is Christy Wanamaker and I am a mother, wife, educator, and musician. I have been fortunate enough to teach and live in the USA, England, Russia, Czech Republic, China, and Argentina! I am currently teaching at the Lincoln International School, Buenos Aires, and have taken on the role of department chair for the arts. My husband (Cory Wanamaker, see bio below) and I moved to the International school system with our son and enjoy this amazing expat life! I am dedicated to bringing cultural enrichment and music education to our community, wherever that may be. I believe strongly in life -long learning which is one reason for choosing the international life style. We have an amazing 23 year old son for whom I hope to model this life- long learning. He brings so much joy to our lives and is currently working in Amsterdam!
Over the span of my career, I have taught music to children ages 3 to 18 in different countries, and enjoy the challenges and rewards that this brings. I have enjoyed many experiences through teaching concert bands, marching bands, ensembles, jazz bands, as well as orchestras and choirs. I have also taught general and advanced music classes to all ages, and greatly enjoy helping students explore all music has to offer. I love helping them discover the ways in which music can enhance their lives! Courses such as GCSE, vocal classes, guitar, performing arts, and chorus round out my experiences. I enjoyed directing and founding the International Community Orchestra of Prague, which involved parents and community members. While in Shanghai I co-founded the regional band festival. I am active in the AMIS organization, raising standards for those especially motivated. Helping people, no matter the age, to experience music is incredibly rewarding!
My graduate work focused on music and psychology, as I achieved my masters in music therapy. I also successfully completed my National Teacher Certification. This was an incredible journey of growth, reflection, and refinement for my teaching. I have presented to my colleagues at the AMIS conference in Madrid, and taken courses directly related to teaching music on-line during Covid closures.
While in Shanghai I enjoyed refining the instrumental band program, teaching music classes, writing and developing curriculum while gaining an appreciation and understanding of the Chinese culture. In Argentina I restarted the instrumental program after the school was hit hard during the Covid pandemic. I am working to help align our standards vertically. I have been enjoying the Argentine culture, and learning the language. This mutual exchange of knowledge, learning, and diversity is what my family and I are striving towards. I feel it is time to learn about a new culture and explore a new corner of the world! I would appreciate your consideration for available positions and the opportunity for a dialogue.
We are a family that believes the arts can enrich the lives of a community. My husband has dedicated his personal and professional life to the arts as well. Here is a bit about him.
*My name is Cory Wanamaker I am a father, husband, artist, and teacher. I’ve spent many years as an an artist and educator. I believe that education is vital to the success of any culture. I hold a B.S.E. in Art Education and the MFA in Interdisciplinary Art. My art began to find success and I made the decision to devote my time to the studio. I find working in the studio deeply satisfying, and our travels inspiring. I continue to find creative ways to educate as well. I was a member of the Visual Art faculty at the Anglo-American University in Prague. I also lecture for international schools as part of the T.O.K., and IB art courses. I have written and implemented P.D. for art teachers. My courses offer teachers a chance to reconnect to their studio practice and take the invigoration back to the classroom. My studio has found its stride and I feel fortunate to have a balanced life as an artist and educator in the international life. While we are looking for a place for Christy to teach, I will pursue my work with my studio and with local Universities. look forward to beginning a dialogue on how our family can be an enriching part of your community.
